About This Box

The Jade Abbey is a ruin now, and beneath it the Everspring still runs, a fount of life-giving water that keeps the surrounding lands green. Gelgus Pust would like it turned into something else. He serves Nurgle, Lord of Plagues, and he has already reshaped the ground above according to his master's tastes.

What stands in his way is not an army. It is an ill-matched band of heroes and sellswords who have very little in common except a reason to be there, which is the shape most dungeon crawls take and the reason they work.

Darkwater is a complete game rather than an expansion or an army box. One to four players take a hero each, work through skirmishes or a longer campaign, and either cooperate properly or lose. Everything needed to play is in the box, and a session runs about 45 minutes.

Who It's For

Groups who want a Warhammer game that fits in an evening, and solo players, since the co-op design works with one hero as readily as four. It is also the least demanding entry point Games Workshop offers into the Mortal Realms: no army to build, no list to write, no opponent to find.

For an existing Age of Sigmar collector, the 45 miniatures are usable well beyond the game. The Nurgle enemies in particular are a Maggotkin-flavoured warband in their own right.

Do I need anything else to play?

No. The rules, cards, dice, counters and miniatures are all in the box, and the miniatures are push-fit so no glue is needed. Paint is optional; the game plays perfectly well with unpainted models.
