About This Book

Ahzek Ahriman was the finest sorcerer the Thousand Sons ever produced and the protege of a primarch, and he ruined his Legion trying to save it. The Rubric was meant to cure the mutation devouring his brothers. It turned most of them into empty armour instead, and it got him exiled by the one man who might have forgiven him.

He has never accepted that the attempt was the mistake. These three novels follow him out into the worst places the galaxy has to offer, the Eye of Terror included, hunting the knowledge that might undo what he did. He is opposed by Space Marines, by the Inquisition, and repeatedly by his own kind, and the further he goes the harder it becomes to argue that saving the Thousand Sons is still what he is doing.

Hubris is the word the setting uses for him. The trilogy is more interesting than that, because it takes his reasoning seriously enough to let you follow it.

Who It's For

Thousand Sons collectors, obviously, and anyone drawn to the sorcerous end of the setting. Beyond that it suits readers who like an antagonist whose logic holds up: Ahriman is one of the few figures in Warhammer 40,000 whose worst act was committed for a defensible reason, and the trilogy is built around that tension rather than around battles.

The eight short stories are worth having in one volume rather than chasing individually, and they fill gaps between the novels rather than sitting alongside them.
