About This Book

Iax was a garden world once, one of the better things Ultramar had to show for itself. By the time this novel opens it is being taken apart, deliberately, as the fulcrum for a plan to drag the whole realm into the warp.

Guilliman goes there to stop it. Mortarion is waiting, and he has brought something specific: a plague grown for the purpose of killing a son of the Emperor, which is not a thing plagues are usually able to do. Two brothers who have not been in the same room since the Heresy, on a dying world, with the gods themselves leaning in to watch.

This is the third book of the Dark Imperium trilogy and the end of the Plague War. Whoever walks away from Iax, the galaxy afterwards is not the one that went in.

Who It's For

Readers already partway through Dark Imperium, since this is where it lands. Also a strong pick for Ultramarines and Death Guard collectors: both armies are here at full strength and the two primarchs get the confrontation the previous two books have been circling.

Anyone who has read the 40,000 setting mostly through codex background will find this a useful demonstration of what the Great Rift actually did to the Imperium, told at the scale of two people rather than a galaxy.
