Lieutenant Castamon of the Ultramarines has seen this before and knows exactly what the dreams mean. So he takes the First Company out to meet it in the outer system instead, on the theory that a fight you choose is better than one that lands on your head.

The Tyranids do not cooperate. This particular tendril behaves in ways the Codex has no entry for, and what began as a pre-emptive strike turns into a question of whether anyone gets back to warn the planet.

Who It's For

Space Marine collectors, particularly Ultramarines, and anyone who wants Tyranids written as a genuine horror rather than as a swarm to be counted. The novel spends most of its length on the void war and the dread of an enemy that adapts faster than doctrine.

It also suits readers who like a tight, contained story. One world, one company, one enemy, no galaxy-spanning politics.
