Build the TRX-4 from the Ground Up

The Traxxas TRX-4 Crawler Kit (82216-4) is the full TRX-4 platform in unassembled form — same portal axles, same two-speed high/low transmission, same remote-locking T-Lock differentials, same waterproof electronics. You build the portal axles yourself, assemble the two-speed transmission, wire the electronics, and dial in the suspension. A full-color labeled-bag assembly manual guides every step. The result is a completely capable 1/10 scale trail crawler with a deep understanding of how it all works.

Body sold separately — fits any Traxxas 312 mm clipless Traxxas body; other wheelbase options are optional.

Key Features

• Portal axles you build yourself: Portal axles raise the chassis for 3.14" of center ground clearance — more than an inch taller than straight-axle designs. Internal gear reduction also virtually eliminates torque twist. You assemble them from scratch in this kit.
• Two-speed high/low transmission with remote shifting: Shift between high range for trail blasting and low range for maximum torque on technical terrain — all from the transmitter without stopping.
• T-Lock remote-locking differentials: Lock and unlock both front and rear differentials independently from the transmitter. Open for easy driving, locked for maximum traction when you need it.
• XL-5 HV ESC with 5 drive profiles: Sport (Forward / Brake / Reverse), Race (Forward / Brake only — reverse locked out), Training (Forward / Brake / Reverse — 50% power), Trail (Forward / Brake / Reverse with drag brake in neutral), and Crawl (Forward / instant reverse — no neutral, 100% hill-hold brake). 3S LiPo capable.
• Adjustable steel ladder frame: Four wheelbase positions (300, 312, 324, 336 mm) and adjustable rock rails, bumpers, and rear shock tower positions — configure for your preferred body and terrain.

Who It's For

Skill Level 2 — more complex than a Slash kit, but Traxxas' labeled bag system and full-color manual keep it manageable for a motivated builder.
