The General's Handbook is where Warhammer Age of Sigmar's balanced play lives. Each edition carries a single season of Matched Play content: the rules that shape how armies are scored, the battleplans they are scored on, and the tactical objectives players chase across a year of games.
This is the 2024-2025 edition, the first General's Handbook of Age of Sigmar's fourth edition. Games Workshop has since published two more seasons, 2025-2026 and 2026-2027, so the seasonal content in this book covers a season that has passed. What has not moved is the rest of it. The Core Rules and Advanced Rules are reprinted here in full, the 12 battleplans work in any casual game, and the Tournament Organisers' pack is written for running events rather than for one season's scoring.
The spiral binding is the quiet reason people keep this one on the table. It folds flat and stays open at the page you left it on.
Players who want the Core Rules in a physical book they can leave open on the table, and anyone building a reference shelf for fourth edition. The 12 battleplans give a casual group a year's worth of missions without touching the seasonal scoring, and the Tournament Organisers' pack is useful to anyone running an event, whatever the current season happens to be.

The Core Rules, Advanced Rules, and battleplans in it are usable in any game you and your opponent agree on. The seasonal scoring is a different matter: Matched Play seasons run about a year, and organised events use whichever General's Handbook is current at the time. As of this writing that is the 2026-2027 edition. Warhammer Community is the place to check where the season stands today.
No. A battletome covers one faction's rules and background. The General's Handbook is faction-agnostic and covers how balanced games are set up and scored.
