About This Book

The Alpha Legion have spent ten thousand years being cleverer than everyone, including each other, which turns out to be the problem. There is no command structure worth the name, only warbands who each believe they are the ones running the real plan.

Solomon Akurra leads one of them, the Serpent's Teeth, and he wants to change that. He intends to take the title of Harrowmaster and pull the feuding heads of the hydra back into one body. His allies are unproven, his rivals are his own brothers, and the Indomitus Crusade is grinding into the Ultima Segmentum behind a wall of Primaris Marines who are noticeably harder to fool than the Imperium used to be.

The weapon he ends up reaching for is the one nobody expects from this Legion: the truth. Whether that counts as a change of method or just a subtler version of the usual is the question the book is actually about.

Who It's For

Chaos Space Marine collectors, especially anyone running Alpha Legion, who have historically been better served by rumour than by novels. Mike Brooks writes them as people with genuinely incompatible ideas about what the Legion is for, rather than as a single shadowy organisation.

Also worth a look if you enjoy fiction about factional politics. Most of the conflict here is internal, and the Imperium is closer to a constraint than to an opponent.
